Kurt Busch makes it clear what must happen for – Sports News
Future NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch is embarking this weekend on what may be his first step in his return to competitive racing in the United States.
The 46-year-old retired from the NASCAR Cup Series in 2023 after struggling with concussions and injuries suffered during a 2022 crash.
He’ll make his return to driving this weekend alongside 11-time X-Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana in Sydney, Australia, at Accor Stadium for The Race of Champions.
Speaking with Speedcafe, Busch admitted his process to itching back into the sport. “I’m not going to go run a Cup car right now at 500 miles side-by-side with all the boys, right?” he said.
“And so it’s just the steps that it takes, and this is the perfect one. And so a ripple effect from this, positive or negative, will open up more doors.”
“I’ve had arthritis ever since I can remember. My gout has flared up where I can barely walk in some days. Just pushing to get through physical therapy and continuing to work out,” he continued.
