Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he and Kyle Busch have been placing the ending touches on a mind-blowing plan simply someday earlier than the NASCAR icon tragically handed away on the age of 41.
On the most recent episode of ‘The Dale Jr. Download,’ Earnhardt shared that Busch was planning on stopping by the JR Motorsports store this week to have a seat becoming earlier than competing within the CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway on July 17.
“I was texting with him the day before he passed away about getting together this Thursday to bring his seat for his late model over to my shop, because we had agreed that he was going to race our car in the CARS Tour,” Earnhardt defined. “He’s going to race my late model in the CARS Tour.”
When supplied to select his paint scheme for the occasion, Busch landed on a particular livery that he knew would draw a response from NASCAR followers. “He’s texting me and he’s like, ‘What scheme are we going to run?’ And I was like, ‘You can run any scheme you want,’” Earnhardt continued.
“I was like, ‘What number do you want to run? You know, we can run 51, whatever you want to run.’ And he goes, ‘I want to run … the Dale Jr. 8.’ And I was like, ‘You got it. That’s what’s on it right now. We’ll run the Dale Jr. 8.’ And he’s giving me a head exploding emoji. And he said, ‘Race fans.’”
Earnhardt and Busch had no scarcity of fiery run-ins over their respective careers, with tensions reaching an ugly head as soon as the previous changed the latter at Hendrick Motorsports in 2007. One 12 months later, Busch obtained his revenge by wrecking Earnhardt whereas battling for the race lead during the closing laps of the Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway.
Behind the scenes, Earnhardt joked that Busch loved enjoying up their rivalry and getting a rise out of his supposed enemy’s supporters. “My sister sent me this text, a picture of him coming out on the intro. I think it was at Fontana when I was at Hendrick and he was in M&M’s car,” Earnhardt stated.
“I was getting ready to get announced, I guess I qualified behind him. And he was like, ‘They’re going to announce you. I’m going to walk out.’ He’s like, ‘I want to mess with the fans.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, go ahead.’ So they announced me and he walked out and they’re cheering, you know, and he comes out and waves.
“We talked about it a little bit, I think on this show some, but he loved to poke and prod. He loved to kid [about] the dynamic between our fans.”
