Mamdani puts migrant protection ahead of street – Latest News
In his newest “do anything to shield illegal migrants” transfer, Mayor Zohran Mamdani is virtually handing “deliveristas” a license to maim and kill.
The NYPD final 12 months started citing e-bike sidewalk speeders and scofflaws with prison summonses, not simply site visitors citations, exactly to guard pedestrians from this rising city menace.
Writing site visitors tickets for cyclists is a waste of time, Commissioner Jessica Tisch defined, as a result of riders who ignore them face zero penalties.
But the pro-illegal-immigration crowd was livid, as a result of any form of prison report may open the door to the feds apprehending and deporting the e-bike scofflaw.
Because all prog causes now mix collectively, pro-bicycle obsessives howled, too: “In a time of mass deportation,” the smug lefties at Transportation Alternatives cried, town selected an “agenda of extralegal harassment.”
“Increased criminal enforcement of e-bike riders, where we have a high concentration of undocumented people, is going to lead to more people getting wrongly deported,” quavered Councilman Lincoln Restler (D-Greenpoint).
“Wrongly” deported unlawful immigrants?
“An immigrant who gets a criminal summons may end up in deportation proceedings,” whined his fellow City Council socialist Tiffany Cabán (D-Astoria).
Huh? To may keep away from hassle, they need solely obey the law, stop at stop indicators and go the correct manner on metropolis streets.

But implementing guidelines for favored constituencies shouldn’t be Mamdani’s model.
In asserting the tip of prison summonses for e-bike site visitors violations, he didn’t point out ICE or deportation, as an alternative offering blather about holding the food apps “accountable” to supposedly confront “the root causes of unsafe e-bike and cycling delivery practices.”
What bull: The “root cause” of harmful e-bike habits is the shortage of penalties for it.
Expect many more brutal accidents like Post author Doree Lewak’s, hospitalized by a “deliverista” going the unsuitable manner in 2019.
Our mayor is so obsessive about maintaining unlawful immigrants secure that he’s rising the risks they pose to everybody else.
Congratulations, New Yorkers: You now dwell in a metropolis that facilities its public-safety insurance policies on defending lawbreakers.
