Millions of drivers could ‘wrongly’ pay £195 in | Tech News
Matt Fieldhouse, spokesperson for mobility firm Mobility in Motion, stressed that it could result in individuals paying hundreds of pounds in bills for no reason.
Matt explained: “Millions of disabled drivers who are reliant on public charging points for their EVs or hybrid vehicles could wrongly fork out £195 in road tax this April.”
The Government states that motorists can apply for a vehicle tax exemption if they receive the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
Those getting the enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP) are also eligible.
Motorists getting the higher rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment, a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or Armed Forces Independence Payment will also not need to pay.
Drivers who receive the PIP standard rate mobility component or the ADP standard rate mobility component will also receive 50% of their VED car tax bill.
Road users have been warned that the vehicle must be registered in the disabled person’s or their nominated driver’s name.
The vehicle must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs, while the exemption can only be applied to one vehicle at a time.
GOV.UK added: “You claim the exemption when you apply for vehicle tax.
“If you’re claiming for a vehicle for the first time, you have to claim at a Post Office. You must do this every time you change your vehicle.”
