NASCAR Cup Series team gets new owner with $75 | Sports News

Rick Ware Racing (RWR) could have a new owner within the close to future, with T.J. Puchyr agreeing to buy the team from Rick Ware. 

In the 2025 season, RWR is at the moment fielding one car within the NASCAR Cup Series, with Cody Ware, Rick Ware’s son, being the one driver for the team. Cody Ware even claimed the team was a “contender” regardless of ending thirty first at Talladega for the Jack Link’s 500 and total sitting on the backside of the standings this season. 

With the team’s struggles in full view, the team will look to have a new owner, with aspirations of making RWR a more viable team to drive for in addition to having more drivers. Speaking to the Associated Press, Puchyr outlined what he needs to occur whereas additionally explaining how a lot a constitution needs to be price.

“I am bullish on wanting to build a three-car team,” he told the outlet regarding his plans for the team. “I believe in the France family and the direction of the sport and I want the rest of the shareholders and industry to know that I believe the charters are worth $75 million or more.”

Of note, Puchyr did not reveal how much he paid for RWR and and despite being the new owner, Rick Ware will remain a part of the organization. The new owner also will aim to have a third car by the 2027 season, with one charter currently leased to RFK Racing, which will be believed to be returned around the same time.

Despite where RWR stands compared to its competitors, Puchyr understands what lays ahead for the team, especially as he works with Rick Ware to build a contending-worthy team with Cody Ware as one of the stars leading the way. 

Puchyr added: “I’ve won at everything I’ve done at every level and I think we can compete with these guys,” Puchyr stated. “I believe we will construct it brick-by-brick and it’s going to take people, money and time. It’s not misplaced on me that (RWR) is the Thirty sixth-place car within the storage, all of us see it.

“But I believe we can make this a competitive organization, even a winner. And I believe we can get these charters valued at their true worth.”

It appears as if the confidence is not in short supply, despite the lack of results this season. Currently, Cody Ware is 36th out of 43 drivers in points, accruing 109 total points this season, more than 500 behind leader William Byron (623).

Still, Cody Ware exuded confidence, despite where he and RWR stand relative to other teams. After a 31st-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway, the younger Ware confidently claimed the team was on the precipice of greatness after briefly running in the top three.
