NASCAR Cup Series star Austin Cindric has had to address his future with Team Penske after his dad, Tim, left the crew this week.
Tim Cindric was president of all of Team Penske’s racing operations from 2005 to 2024, when he took on a new position focusing solely on the IndyAutomobile program of the crew. But after the crew was penalized for rule violations with its automobiles after Indy 500 qualifying, crew proprietor Roger Penske took swift and decisive motion.
Cindric was amongst three senior members of the crew to depart with quick impact, with NASCAR champion Joey Logano admitting it “obviously” had an affect on all components of the crew. “And I feel like from every step of the way, since I started racing for the team in 2018, I feel like between myself, my pops and (team owner) Roger (Penske) and most involved, I feel like we’ve done a pretty good job at separating personal life and professional life. And I see this as no different.
“The interesting thing for me about my first three years in Cup was the first time I actually was in meetings with my dad. And that ended at the beginning of this year, so I feel like there really is only a personal connection to any of the news from this week.”
Meanwhile, teammate Ryan Blaney was unhappy to see Cindric’s father depart after additionally having a close relationship with him within the crew.
“Tim was one of the first guys I met over at Team Penske, and he was in the very first meetings with me and my dad,” Blaney mentioned. “He had a huge impact on on my career and my life, and he’s been a friend of mine ever since I walked in the door that day. And so he he definitely meant a lot.”
