NYC has had plenty of mayors — but none like our – Latest News
Honored to know Hizzoner
We’ve had mayors to the suitable of us — and now way-the-hell to the left of us.
As all civilization is aware of, I’m not one to complain or criticize. But largely mayors schlep to different international locations to get photographed on free journeys then — as soon as back — stand in entrance of microphones to learn what some low-leveler wrote for them, then permit a refrain to stand and pose behind them nodding sagely at their non-words earlier than patting the electee on the back and remembering to say how great his spouse appears to be like.
We’ve had a few of these mayors — in no order of means:
De Blasio — excuse the expression — a dud. My apologies to Dudblasio but he charges 4 oys.
Giuliani. For whom we have been grateful and who then cleaned up New York — and who then bought cleaned up by Donald.
One-termer Abe Beame left us bankrupt. For chow mein he took me to Brooklyn! The solely Chinese place he knew.
A load of offers in the past, our very first mayor was Thomas Willett, grabbed two phrases. We have been Andrew Cuomo-less then.
Along the road got here Stephanus Van Cortlandt. The first native-born Hizzoner. What he did, I don’t know. I didn’t come alongside for an additional few weeks. He bought a park.

David Dinkins, my good friend, doesn’t get massive thanks — but he was my close good friend. Let no one knock him — he introduced us Ray Kelly. Also he’s talked about as having been the worst mayor.
Best of all of the beauties — La Guardia. My late husband was introduced up by that man. We have his desk in our home.
Bloomberg was A-1. He stopped the smoking in eating places. Also he pushed up tennis, Ashe Stadium.
Koch. Terrific. He stopped the financial bleeding of our metropolis, which was almost bankrupt.
Our most colourful? Jimmy Walker. NYC’s chief government who mayored from 1926 to 1932. Like Eric Adams, a nighttime man. Saloons. Speakeasies. Late nights. What both achieved, not sure. These guys earn $260,000 a yr. Walker, nevertheless, is now in NY’s Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
So we now bought a Mrs. Mayor. She’s 28, Rama Duwaji. Muslim. Syrian ancestry. A Palestinian made her Election Day gown. We’re advised, “She shaped him.” We study she “rages against US imperialism.” We’re advised, “She’s an accomplished artist.” When he received her résumé added “accomplished.”
So, what’s a mayor truly do? Oversees the police division, 30,000 cops, which this man needs to restrict. Watches the town finances, measly $115 billion. Watches 100 metropolis companies. Creates public coverage. Vetoes dangerous laws. Organizes City Council stuff, oversees NYC integrity. Advocates for funds at federal degree, oversees public duties, plans finances coverage, vetoes native legal guidelines, manages federal whatever-the-hells, oversees metropolis and state legal guidelines, watches public companies, administers metropolis legal guidelines and micromanages another issues. And that’s all for under Monday.
But we elected him. So congratulations to him. Best to his spouse. I definitely hope she reminds him: no spitting, no rubbish piling up, no scaffolding, no rats, no roaches, no bicycles, no antisemitism, no free buses, no stealing, no exorbitant costs, no empty shops, no exorbitant rents, no spiritual hatred, no druggies strolling round.
Welcome to New York City, Mamdanis.
The oldest human handed on not too long ago. The secret to his long life? A glass of crimson wine nightly. Should that be true, allow us to look ahead to one other sometime mayoralty with Eric Adams.
Only in New York, youngsters, solely in New York.
