Gabriel mentioned: “One of the best practices to save fuel is to drive more efficiently. Accelerate gently, avoid sudden braking, and look ahead to anticipate the road ahead. This not only saves fuel but also reduces wear and tear on your vehicle.

“Speed performs a key position in your fuel consumption. Driving at 70mph makes use of up to 9% more fuel than driving at 60mph, and growing velocity additional to 80mph can lead to up to 25% more fuel consumption in contrast to driving at 70mph.

“Slowing down by just 10mph can make a big difference in your fuel economy when it’s safe to do so.”

Throttle and brake pedals act as levers with motorists responsible for how hard they press down on them while behind the wheel.

Gradually pushing down the foot to accelerate and slowly pushing on the brake pedal to slow down will be better for fuel use than slamming down the pedal. 

Experts at The RAC stressed that the best way to achieve high fuel economy was driving in the highest possible gear while keeping underneath the speed limit.

The RAC commented: “Excessive speed is the biggest fuel-guzzling factor so having a light right foot and ensuring all acceleration is gentle is very important to fuel-efficient driving.

“Of course, you will always have to accelerate a number of times on a journey, but that doesn’t mean you have to pull away like you’re on the starting line at Silverstone!”
