Three sets of highway customers will likely be affected by a new driving rule change coming into impact in a matter of days, in response to specialists. The DVSA is overseeing radical modifications to UK driving checks, with the ultimate tweak set to hit highway customers from Tuesday, June 9.

Under the modifications, learner drivers will solely be allowed to rebook their driving check on the three nearest check centres to their present reserving. It implies that drivers can’t change their check to any centre within the UK, with highway customers transferring away more likely to be affected.

Matt Salisbury, Senior PR Lead at (*9*)Vertu, careworn that three sorts of drivers may very well be most affected by the modifications in a main blow. Students transferring to college, these relocating for work, or people about to maneuver in with a companion.

Matt defined: “The learner drivers who need to consider this in particular are anyone moving in the next few months. Students starting university, learners relocating for work, or anyone moving in with a partner. The three-centre limit is calculated from where your test is currently booked, not where you live, so if you book before you move, your new local centre may not be one of the three you can switch to.

“So, if a move is on the cards, it is usually better to wait until you are settled before booking. If you have already booked and a move is now confirmed, check whether your nearest new centre falls within the three closest to your existing booking before you assume you can switch.”

According to Vertu, the new rules have been designed to stop drivers booking quieter centres only to switch to one closer to where they live when a date becomes available.

The new rules have also been introduced to stop third-party resellers harvesting slots and selling them on at higher prices. The change is the third update to driving tests so far this year, with the DVSA already introducing two updates earlier this spring.

Earlier this spring, Beverley Warmington, DVSA’s Chief Executive, said: “Our precedence is to stop learners being exploited by third events, put them in control of their driving check and make the method fairer by clamping down on companies that resell checks at inflated costs.”
