Trump assures gold bars will not face tariffs – Business News

President Trump on Monday mentioned gold bars will not face tariffs –  resulting in reduction from world bullion markets after days of hypothesis that the dear metallic might be caught up within the ongoing world commerce battle.

“Gold will not be Tariffed!” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social Monday.

US spot gold – the worldwide benchmark – fell 1.2% to $3,357 an ounce following Trump’s remark, whereas gold futures dropped 2.4% to $3,407 after hovering to a record-high above $3,500 final week.

On Friday, US Customs and Border Protection ruled that 1-kilogram and 100-ounce gold bars from Switzerland could be subject to Trump’s 39% tariff on the nation.

While a US gold tariff would have been particularly dangerous for Switzerland, which is a main refining hub for the dear metallic, it will have utilized to any nation exporting gold bars to the US, in line with the Swiss Precious Metal Association.

The group warned on Friday that the customs ruling “may negatively impact the international flow of physical gold.”
